News from weekending 5th June 2015

 

·         Four senior pupils were accompanied by Mr Gilliland and Mr Fraser to the Trades Hall of Glasgow on Monday to collect their prizes.

 

·         Miss Hussain and some junior pupils attended their first debating competition on Wednesday at Strathclyde University. The pupils had a great time and it was a very worthwhile experience. One pupil in S1 won the prize for the most improved speaker. All teams won a round of debating but were piped at the post when Lourdes Secondary won the overall cup (they had S5 pupils in their team).

 

·         Mr Ross and S2 pupils were out of school on Monday 1st June to take part in the “Scottish Power - Skills for Scotland Project” follow-up day. Mrs King attended their presentation and award ceremony with Mr Ross in the evening. Their presentations were excellent emphasising skills for work and life and one of our pupils was selected from the 4 schools involved to record a video of the experience.

 

·         Other events this week included a gymnastics event on Tuesday and a SMART STEMs Conference.

 

·         A third year pupil returned from competing in Spain with a gold medal for his gymnastics performance against several other European countries. Amazing!

 

·         On Thursday. A group of senior pupils attended the wave energy converter at Flowave at Edinburgh Uni. Chrissie of Beyonder commented “I am delighted to say that their device works. They are looking to make some design changes after the project which we will continue to support with but on the whole they have done very well.”

 

·         Welcome back to Mr Boland who returned on Wednesday.

 

·         The 3rd S2 croft group have returned.

 

·         Miss McPhillips, Depute Head from Inveralmond Community School was the successful candidate for the HT post at the interviews on Wednesday.

 

·         The Prom takes place tonight after a year of planning by the Prom Committee.
