S1 Whitelee Windfarm Trip

Thirty-four S1 Science pupils, and staff, braved the elements to visit Whitelee Windfarm. The site contains 140 turbines and it is the largest windfarm in Europe. Pupils participated in practical interactive experiments designed to build an understanding of wind energy, the placement of turbines on land and the balance of energy supply and demand. In addition, pupils learned to separate fact from fiction, as well as to use their own knowledge to make informed opinions on renewable energies. After sampling the delights of the gift shop, pupils and staff were privy to a tour around the wind turbines themselves.

The pupils and staff would like to thank the staff at Whitelee Windfarm for making this trip both enjoyable and informative.
