Here is a mini newround from Friday 7th March.

·         Six S3 students, Jo Watt, Emma Rawlings, Iona Campbell, Carla Nugent, Dean Thornton and Luke McGoldrick attended the Tennants  Master class in Hospitality on Wednesday morning at the Tennants Training Academy on Duke Street. They were accompanied by Dale Murphy the ICT student. They had a fabulous experience from making mocktails and pizza to learning how to wait on tables.

 

·         The 4 week course ‘ Glasgow Secondary Schools Cycling Programme’ where pupils have the opportunity to train on the Chris Hoy Velodrome starts this  afternoon with 15 x  S1-S2  pupils selected.

 

                       

·         Mr Dixon and his S5/S6 RMPS class are fund raising in preparation for their visit to Sammye Linge Buddhist Monastery (Dumfries) at the end of this month. The cost of this was much more than anticipated!  As Mark says “This could be an amazing experience for our pupils and a number of the relaxation techniques will definitely help them during a very stressful time of year! So….at  lunchtime today on the stage in the social area, Steven Andrew, Robbie Steele and myself will be having our legs waxed if (and believe me only if) we can raise our minimum target of £200.”   Worth watching/supporting.

 

·         The S2 Girls group for Em-Prove started on Tuesday. The programme will run for 8 weeks. It is run by Glasgow Life Youth Workers who engage the young people in activities around building self- confidence,  working with others in a social setting, personal safety and setting targets for behaviour.

 

 

·         Dougie Weir’s S2 ICT class are involved in a project to make a short movie about Castlemilk High.  This movie will be shown to P6 pupils at Castleton and Miller Primary. The filming has started.

 

·         Mr Munro and Mrs King attended Parent Council on Wednesday night. They have agreed to work with the Uganda group to fund raise with them. They will hold a Race Night on Friday 30TH May for staff, friends and parents.

 

·         Mrs Campbell and Mr Munro met with the Uganda Parents and pupils on Tuesday night to discuss costs and arrangements for the project, June 2015. The Race Night has been agreed for Friday 30th May.

 

·         The Duke Of Edinburgh pupils were spotted making tea on camping stoves just outside the entrance on Tuesday night with Mrs Heffron and Mr Harkins.

 

·         S2 pupils attended the ‘Bad Idea’ finals over 4 days this week at the SSCE with  Mrs McKenna, Mrs Morgan, Miss Crane, Mrs Campbell each taking a day. No news yet for the winners but some great ‘bad’ ideas.

 

·         Fantastic news that Dean Thornton has gained a ‘Diana Award’ as a Courageous Citizen – this is the first time in many years that the school has been successful with a nomination for this award. The assessors were really impressed and particularly thought that Dean demonstrated exceptional personal qualities.

 

·         Mr McLean and Mr Dixon met with the parents of the Man U excursion pupils last night to finalise details and complete all the paperwork. 35 of the 38 pupils were represented which is a fantastic turnout.

 

·         The first outside planting took place last night with Patrick, Paul, Christine, and S3 pupils Caroline McGinley and Gerard Law planting root vegetables outside and herbs, peas and beans inside. Also, Patrick has enlisted a group of S2 pupils this week who will help with digging and planting of fruit trees over the coming weeks.
