Prize Guys Wise up to Knives

We-C TV Winners

Castlemilk High School Pupils had an early Christmas present when they won their section of the Scottish Youth Parliament's We-CTV competition. Working in conjunction with No Knives, Better Lives, a programme that tries to discourage young people from ever picking up a knife, the Scottish Youth Parliament devised the project to give young people the opportunity to create a two-minute campaign film on knife crime.

The voting for We-CTV was split into four separate categories. The first three categories included schools from Glasgow and Renfrewshire and the fourth was an open category, which was open to any group of young people ages 12 - 18 across Scotland. Castlemilk High School was the winning entry from Phase Three. Pupils Bobbi Berwick, Siobhan Lamb, Conner Buckley, Louise Skinner (all S2) and Dylan McCarron (S3), under the supervision of Faculty Head of Language and Communication, Mr Hindson, won first place for their entry entitled "The Knife That Comes Back to Haunt You". The film is based around the theme of guilt and concerns a convicted knife criminal who is haunted by the youth he has murdered.

Attending the red-carpet awards ceremony at the Tramway Theatre were the six pupils, Castlemilk High Head Teacher, Mrs McMaster, and Mr Hindson. There were four prize sets of flip cameras for every participant worth over £100 each and also a Hewlet Packard laptop for the school.
