New from week ending 6th February 2015.

 

·         The extended assemblies this week have gone very well with the following speakers:

 

o   The Sports Leaders promoting extra-curricular and community clubs including a number of new clubs ; a Fitness club on a Tuesday lunchtime and a Table Tennis club on a Friday lunchtime for staff and pupils.

o   Mr Boland launching the new homework policy.

o   Seniors promoting their grand ideas for raising money as part of their Personal Development course.

o   Two S5 pupils describing their visit to Auschwitz and the impact it had on them. How brave they were to share their emotions with all year groups.

o   Mrs Stevenson setting the scene and motivating the pupils for ‘Disco Inferno’ the October 2015 school show.

 

 

·         Another group of seniors have entered a ‘politician photographic competition’ as part of their ‘Money for Life’ challenge –photo attached.

 

·         The School Outdoor Centre Committee met this week after school in preparation for the AGM on Wednesday.

 

·         An S5 pupil has applied for Space school supported by Mr Shaw. His reference included the following.

 

“I have had the pleasure of teaching her since her arrival in Castlemilk High School. She has excellent powers of analysis and is well able to think her way through challenging problem solving situations in Physics and Mathematics. She is "super keen" to ask questions and continually improve her already considerable abilities. Her manner is always positive. She takes advantage of all opportunities - the most recent of which was attending the Christmas lecture provided by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, and a week's school ski-ing trip in Italy in December 2014. She is an ideal candidate for participation in the Scottish Space School. She will revel in the opportunity.”

 

 

·         The school received £50 this week for the Junior Saltire Award toward their build costs of their project. Stem ambassadors will work with the pupils supported by Mr Gilliland and Mr Mackie.

 

·         Another S5 pupil has successfully reached Scottish Secondary School finals for badminton.

 

·         Pupil councils have taken place this week. Mrs King will meet with various council members today to hear about their proposals for the school.

 

·         Welcome to the student teachers who started on Monday for a 6 week block, Mr McGuire in English and Miss MacLeod in Social Subjects.

 

·         Newlands Junior College reported positively on three S4 pupils this week. One in particular is doing very well including undertaking National 5 English.

 

·         S4 practice interviews took place on Monday. The business partners were very impressed by the confident manner of many of our pupils.
