News from the week...

•The S4 National 5 prelims finish today.

•The seniors in the Wider achievement group submitted our first ever entry to the Junior Saltire Awards and were amongst the first 75 submissions. Their entry is a ‘Marine Energy Challenge’ which is being run by SCDI’s Young Engineers & Science Clubs Scotland to design, build and test a simple, floating wave energy converter. They have had outstanding support from our partners in ‘Beyonder’ who are now requesting subject support.

•Mr Ross has been working this week in selecting the next S2 group for the Scottish Power Foundation/Outward bound Trust which culminates in a 5 day residential at Loch Eil. The emphasis is very much on skills for work.

•Miss Cocquerel sent her good wishes to all staff for a Happy New Year –she misses us all and we are still favourite school!

•Pastoral Care has completed the S3 into S4 options.

•Mr Munro and Mrs Campbell met with the Uganda trip parents and pupils on Monday night to look at their finances and continue the fundraising. They are holding a Race Night at the White Elephant on Friday 6th March in the White Elephant, Newlands. All welcome and more details to follow.

•Parent Council met on Wednesday night at the Croft where we discussed the Homework Policy and fundraising. The parents will be supporting the Uganda Race Night.

•Supported study classes continued all week including Saturday morning with Mr Hindson’s English class.

•Professor McBain made an impromptu visit to the school and Science Department on Monday. He was very impressed with the pupils, their uniform and our dedicated Science staff. He felt the school ‘was much loved’ by us all. He has pledged to support the Science Department financially for another 5 years!

•Mr Munro and some S1 pupils supported the community this week with BBB –bingo, blether and a bite – in the Maureen Cope Hall.

•Welcome to Mr Scott a postgraduate PE student who is here for 6 weeks.
