CERN trip review

One of our senior pupils, Ross,  was lucky enough to win a competition to go to CERN in Geneva this year. Here is his review:

Over the Easter holidays of 2015, Mr Shaw gave me the chance to enter into a competition to go to CERN. I entered expecting to not even get a response. This wasn’t the type of thing I thought I’d get into. To my surprise, on the last day of school I was told that I’d won a place to go. It was great to know this on the day before the summer break.

The day came to leave on September 29th and we arrived on the afternoon of the same day. As soon as I got there, I got the opportunity to meet some very interesting people – many of whom had been working at CERN since its inception in the 1960’s. This was probably one of the most interesting things I’ve ever seen.
I got to see the room where the internet was invented. I also got to see old experiments that were just opened due to them being radioactive, and I even got to go into downtown Geneva and see the history of the city.
This trip meant a lot to me because ever since I was in Primary School I had an interest in science. This was something younger me could only have dreamed about. I am confident that visit will stay with me for the rest of my life.
