Driving lessons are now in place for those senior pupils with 100% attendance and very positive interim reports. Castlemilk High School has been extremely fortunate to have had a working relationship with the G&M Driving Centre for the past five years.To date, over one hundred of the school’s pupils have been given practical and theoretical driving instruction which has resulted in approximately fifty of our young people going on to gain their full driver’s licence under G&M’s tuition.
The initiative started out as part of the ‘Schools of Ambition’ programme when driving lessons were timetabled during the school day to motivate reluctant learners. As well as being used as a motivation tool, the lessons were seen as a way to increase the pupils’ chances of securing positive school-leaver destinations. The initiative proved to be so popular that it was necessary to find opportunities for more young people to become involved. The initiative currently runs after school for both the theoretical and practical elements.
As well as benefiting the pupils, a number of staff and parents have also used the services of the G&M Driving Centre.
