Here is a mini newsround from the week ending Friday 14th March.

·         Library update :  We celebrated World Book Day by live streaming of the author Robert Muchamore. All S1 pupils were involved in this.    S1/2 pupils have also been taking part in the World Book Day deign a bookmark competition. Some pupils have also been taking part on the 500 word creative  writing competition, run by Radio 2.

 

·         The film club has moved to the library, and  on Thursdays.  Mr Boland and Mrs McKenna are working on book/ film tie-in’s. Yesterday’s screening was ‘The Hunger Games’.

 

·         The S4/5 Parents Information Evening on Monday was attended by around 20 families and heard from Mr Fraser about S5/6 options, from Mr Weir about UCAS and the top-up programme and from Stephen Coyle on careers support and advice.  The options interviews with pastoral care, pupils and parents are now underway.

 

·         The 12 x S2 pupils supported by Mr Ross have been away all week at Loch Eil working with StMMs, KP and Holyrood pupils. Scottish Power and The Outward Bound Trust deliver the course concentrating on skills for future employability. Mr Ross has been in touch with an update – the pupils have had an excellent experience and even had good weather.

 

·         S3 pupils attended the Fire Reach programme all week, again concentrating on employability skills. There is an awards ceremony at Castlemilk Fire Station with Mr Oberg , parents and pupils  today.

 

·         Laura Strain won the Mary Russell award for the most improved female player in the Glasgow & North Strathclyde area for badminton (pictured).

 

 

·         Mr Dixon commented on the leg waxing fund raiser;  ‘Just wanted to say a massive thank you on behalf of the RMPS class for  your support with the leg waxing fundraiser that took place last Friday, everyone was more than generous  and we are more than on our way to reaching our total!

 

·         The results from the Glasgow Gymnastics Championships have been posted online and we finished 5th overall! This is out of 15 teams. Brooke Nelson also received the 4th highest floor routine out of 64 girls! Miss McEwan said:  ‘We have some amazing potential for the future as all our pupils were in S1 and S2.’ Great news.

 

 

·         S2 Social subjects had a speaker form the Thistle Jewish club this week. It was very emotional with the speaker – in her 90s – recalling her time in Beriln and the pupils were fascinated. For many of our pupils this is their first time meeting a Jewish person.
