mini newsround week ending 29th May 2014.

Here is a mini-round up of all the news at Castlemilk High School for the week ending Friday 29th May 2014.

·         The Cheerleading/Gymnastics Squad performed at St Bartholomew Primary School as part of their health week on Wednesday 28th May. They received excellent feedback.

 

·         The Girl’s Football Team had their Summer Finals on Thursday 29th May. They made it to the quarter finals –well done.

 

·         STEM Opportunity -  The S1 had a great opportunity this week to find out about the many Science related careers that exist by talking to a range of scientists in a ‘speed –dating’ format organised by Mrs Toal. Our former technical students supported the event.

 

·         Anderson Maguire (funeral directors) gave us £500 towards our trip to Camas on Mull and had a photo call on Wednesday to present the cheque to Mark, Sarah (chaplain), and the pupils who were part of the Camas experience.

·         UGANDA – Mr Munro met with the parents and pupils to continue planning for the excursion with the emphasis on fund raising and prepare for the Race Night on Friday 6th June.

 

·         Credit union – The Credit Union Launch was held this week on Tuesday afternoon with S1 finding out about saving and debt. They all have the opportunity to start regular saving with a £10.00 gift from Credit Union

 

·         National 4 pupils last week had 3 days of skills for life and employment related activities organised by Mr Oberg and Irene Yuile. They had the opportunity to work with a chef to cook an Indian meal and to work with Barclays and Free the Children charity on preparing for work. The delivery from the business partners was of a high standard and the pupils responded well.

 

·         The National 4 group who have been attending Glasgow Caledonian University – even on In-service day and holiday Friday – have had an excellent skills related experience and graduate today. Mr Oberg and parents are attending the graduation.

 

·         The S2 EMPROVE girls celebrated their achievements at the end of their course on Tuesday afternoon at the Jenniburn. Irene and parents attended the presentation.

 

·         The S1 boys took part in the finals of the Soccer 7s competition on Thursday 29th May.  Although unsuccessful they participated well and enjoyed themselves.

 

·         The 2 day P7 induction was held this week. The P7s had a fantastic 2 days – more info from Irene to follow.

 

·         Mrs Heffron and the S3 Duke of Edinburgh group embarked on their practice challenge involving walking for 5 hours, carrying all their equipment and camping overnight on Friday 30th May . Mrs Heffron is proud of their recent achievement, such as tent pitching and team work.

 

·         The Gardening Club have raised £60 by selling some of their recently nurtured plants. Well done!

 

·         The final sum raised by those pupils and staff who ran/walked the 5K was £1,001.00 for Cancer Research. Top fund raiser was Suzanne Taggart, S2 with £510! Superb work ladies!
